About the Role
Neumo is seeking a hands-on Staff Engineer / Senior Software Architect to lead the modernization of a 20-year-old .NET revenue and debt-recovery platform into a modern SaaS application.
This individual will own the technical architecture and modernization strategy while overseeing an external engineering partner leveraging agentic AI development workflows. You'll be responsible for ensuring the new platform is reliable, secure, maintainable, and production-ready while keeping the existing system operational.
This is a highly technical leadership role requiring direct experience with legacy application modernization, third-party vendor oversight, and production-level agentic software development.
Key Responsibilities

Own the architecture and modernization strategy for a complex legacy .NET application.

Guide development across React, Node.js, REST APIs, SQL Server, Docker, Kubernetes, and retained .NET components.

Oversee an external development partner, reviewing architecture, code quality, technical specifications, and deliverables.

Establish engineering standards, acceptance criteria, and quality gates.

Apply hands-on agentic AI development experience to improve software delivery and maintainability.

Ensure seamless migration while maintaining legacy system operations and financial data integrity.

Communicate technical risks, decisions, and progress to executive leadership.

Lead knowledge transfer and eventually assume full technical ownership of the platform alongside internal engineers.
Required Qualifications:
- 12 years of software engineering experience, including Staff, Principal, or Senior Architect-level responsibilities.
- Must have strong hands on expertise in React

Proven ownership of complex legacy application modernizations from architecture through production.

Direct experience managing external engineering vendors and holding them accountable for technical quality and delivery.

Hands-on experience implementing agentic AI coding workflows used to ship production software.
- Strong application architecture experience with Node.js, REST APIs
- Experience with relational databases -- particularly SQL Server

.NET development experience.

Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and legacy system migrations.

Ability to critically review production code and make architectural decisions.

Strong executive communication, technical leadership, and documentation skills.

Experience operating in remote, distributed engineering environments.
Preferred Qualifications:

Fintech, government technology, payments, or other regulated industry experience.

Experience with financial calculations, transaction reconciliation, or revenue collection systems.

Knowledge of compliance and accessibility standards, including SOC 2, FedRAMP, PCI DSS, or WCAG.

Experience transitioning vendor-built applications to internal engineering teams.
Ideal Candidate
A hands-on Staff/Principal Engineer or Senior Software Architect who has personally led a large-scale legacy modernization, directed external engineering teams, and successfully delivered production software using agentic AI development tools.
